(Adds percentage change in headline, background and country details) Oct 21 (Reuters) – European Union soft wheat exports since the start of the 2025/26 season were down 21% year-on-year by October 19 at 5.87 million metric tons, European Commission data showed on Tuesday. About 5.51 million tons were exported by October 12, and 7.49 million a year earlier. However, export data for France are not complete since April 2024, while export data for Bulgaria and Ireland are not complete since the beginning of marketing year 2023/24, the Commission said. A breakdown of this season's volumes showed Romania was still the largest EU soft wheat exporter with 2.45 million tons exported so far, followed by France with 0.92 million tons, Lithuania with 0.84 million tons, Latvia with 0.46 million tons and Poland with 0.33 million tons. EU barley exports totalled 2.53 million tons compared to 2.40 million tons a week earlier and up 54% from the corresponding period of 2024/25. The Commission said it is also investigating the cause of unusually high export volumes of durum wheat reported by Romania in 2025/26, it said.
