The Congress will suspend the legislators, who had cross voted during the March 16 Rajya Sabha polls, where its party candidates Karam Veer Singh Boudh won by one vote, sources said on Monday.
Top Congress sources said that the party will take action against the five MLAs, who had cross voted during the Rajya Sabha polls.
The party insider said that they will suspend them so that they cannot join other parties and thus they will not be expelled from the primary membership of the party.
When asked about the acrion ahainst MLAs, whose votes were declared invalid, the source said that the party is still thinking how they need to proceed against them.
He said that the votes of four MLAs were declared invalid, and it will be very tough to prove if they intentionally marked the poll roll incorrectly.
Thus as of now, no action will be taken against them, he explained.
On March 18, party Haryana incharge BK Hariprasad said that it has informed the party’s disciplinary committee and show cause notice was being issued to all of the MLAs who had cross voted. He had also also said that the action will be taken against the MLAs who cross voted during Rajya Sabha polls.
Hariprasad, at a press conference in New Delhi, had said Congress MLAs, including Shalley Chaudhary, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Israil and Renu Bala had cross-voted in the election. However, he had not taken the name of the fifth MLA in his press conference.
The disciplinary committee had issued show cause notices to MLAs and their responses have also been submitted with the party leadership.
Following the cross voting by Congress MLAs in Haryana, the grand old party was embroiled in a turmoil.
Amid the turmoil, one of the three acting presidents of the Haryana Congress, Ram Kishan Gujjar, resigned from party membership and relinquished all posts and responsibilities. His wife is also a Congress MLA in Haryana.
Congress’s Boudh only managing to secure 28 votes and winning by just one vote, despite 37 MLAs in the Assembly, what looked like an easy win for Congress turned into a nail-biting finish.
