A major security operation is under way in Peshawar, Pakistan, after a aligned attack on the headquarters of the Frontier Constabulary. Gunmen and suicide bombers attacked the compound, leaving six dead and three of them are security personnel.

Explosions at Main Gate Marked Start of Coordinated Strike

The incident began with immediate violence, according to police, who said two blasts rocked the main entrance of the paramilitary compound. The blasts marked the beginning of a fierce assault in which armed men forced their way into the building.

The FC commandos and police units immediately retaliated from inside the compound. An intense exchange of gunfire followed as the security forces went into battle against the attackers.

In the gunfight that ensued, three attackers inside the premises were neutralized, having been shot dead by the security personnel. Unfortunately, the first explosions at the principal entrance also killed three FC commandos.

IG Confirms Suicide Bombings

The attack involved at least two suicide bombers, senior officials later confirmed. One bomber exploded explosives at the main entrance, while the other managed to enter the compound before the blast.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IG confirmed the suicide bombings, noting that one blast occurred at the main gate and the second took place at a motorcycle stand located just inside the gate.

The locality around the FC headquarters near Saddar Market was sealed immediately after the firefight. The police and army started cordoning off the entire area to ensure public safety.

CCPO Dr Mian Saeed said a thorough clearance sweep was in progress at the compound. The search at the scene was required to make sure that no leftover threat or explosives remained buried.

It highlights the continued security challenges in the region; militant groups often strike against government and security forces. The prompt response of the security personnel in this attack prevented the situation from spiraling out of control.
