“Cannot Give Up On Nuclear Aspirations” : Iran, In Spite Of “Severe Damage”

Despite facing significant harm and increasing international scrutiny over its nuclear intentions, Iran's nuclear chief, Mohammad Eslami, reiterated that the country cannot give up its nuclear program, citing strategic necessity.

Despite admitting to experiencing “serious damage” from international sabotage and sanctions, Iran claims that it is not willing to give up its nuclear program. Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) head Mohammad Eslami uses harsh language that mirrors Tehran’s hardened attitude as global tensions rise. In an interview with Iranian media, Eslami emphasized the significance of Iran’s nuclear ambitions as the foundation of the country’s technological progress and energy security, saying, “We cannot give up this program, despite all the expenditures.” Eslami maintains that despite decades of targeted strikes, cyberattacks (most notably the Stuxnet virus in 2010), and economic sanctions, Iran’s scientific progress has not been deterred.

“Nuclear Facilities Robust”, claims Eslami

Nuclear Infrastructure Resilient, Says Eslami. He maintained that Iran’s nuclear facilities remain robust despite “unprecedented pressure.” He also pointed to current developments in uranium enrichment, where stockpiles would now exceed the restrictions imposed by the now-defunct 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear pact between global powers. In exchange for a reduction in sanctions, the JCPOA placed restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program.

Turmoil in West anticipated

However, the agreement has been rendered useless due to Donald Trump’s withdrawal of the United States in 2018, which was followed by Iran’s slow transgression of its obligations. Worldwide concerns are rising. The capitals of Europe, Washington, and Tel Aviv are likely to be alarmed by the most recent comment. Israel has consistently warned that it will use military preemption to stop Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. The U.S. and EU are still looking for diplomatic solutions, but they are doing so with a lot of skepticism, notably since Iran has been simultaneously increasing its collaboration with other countries, like Russia and China.

The IAEA has frequently criticized Iran’s lack of transparency in inspections, especially in undeclared sites. Strategic Timing Amid Regional Unrest Iran’s warning comes at a sensitive moment. The Middle East is already under pressure from the deployment of American forces in the area and the Gaza war. According to analysts, Tehran is partly attempting to project strength at home and internationally by defying continued economic difficulties and domestic political upheaval.

What’s Next?

Iran’s refusal to budge, despite its continued assertion that its nuclear program is peaceful and civilian, carries the risk of increased isolation and maybe even war. Currently, Tehran appears determined to continue along its nuclear path, regardless of the geopolitical ramifications.
