A proud moment unfolds on the world stage: Yashobhoomi – India International Convention & Expo Centre, located in Dwarka, New Delhi, has been awarded the International Architecture Award® 2025 for being among the best civic centres in the world – one of the most prestigious recognitions in global design and architecture. Among the top three largest convention centres in the world, Yashobhoomi was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17 September 2023, and stands as a landmark achievement in India’s public infrastructure.

Dikshu C Kukreja, Managing Principal of CP Kukreja Architects, which designed the centre, said: “Yashobhoomi embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning India as a leading global hub.”

Organised by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, the award is given annually to exceptional works of architecture from across the globe. This year, over 1,200 entries were submitted worldwide.

In Sanskrit, Yashobhoomi means “the land of fame.” True to its name, the centre is a testament to the nation’s ambition and capability to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s finest. Spanning 225 acres with a built-up area of 2.2 million sq ft, it is the first of its scale and kind in India.

Yashobhoomi houses one of the world’s largest convention centres, capable of hosting over 11,000 people. The same has been designed by CP Kukreja Architects in collaboration with IDOM (Spain), It is home to India’s first circular retractable roof in its upcoming indoor arena, and features one of the world’s largest LED façade in Asia, spanning 100,000 sq ft. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the capital’s transport network, it includes a metro station within the site, car-free pedestrian zones, and extensive green boulevards – reflecting the country’s focus on sustainability and accessibility.

The official award ceremony took place at the most prestigious of settings – the foot of the historic Acropolis in Athens, Greece, a cradle of architectural heritage.

This honour goes beyond architectural excellence, it is a moment of national pride, placing India firmly on the global stage. As the nation strides into the future, Yashobhoomi stands as a testament to India’s ingenuity, cultural richness, and unwavering spirit – a land that has, for millennia, been a cradle of ideas, a beacon of enterprise, and a wellspring of excellence for the world.
