Every year, September 17 marks the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But instead of grand personal celebrations, the day has been turned into Sewa Diwas—a day dedicated to service, compassion, and community welfare.

Sewa Diwas: How the Tradition Started?

The practice began in 2014, when Modi became Prime Minister. Since then, his birthday has been celebrated by BJP members and citizens across with volunteer projects including food distribution, cleaning campaigns, blood donation camps, and tree plantings. Instead of celebrating the day with personal festivities, the goal is to benefit others.

Sewa Diwas: PM Modi’s Belief in Seva

The concept behind Sewa Diwas reflects PM Modi’s personal ideology. With his modest background, he frequently speaks about discipline, compassion, and prioritising the nation, and he believes that the best way to celebrate it is by serving people.

That is why he encourages citizens to mark his birthday through seva (service), making it a reminder of responsibility and unity.

Sewa Diwas: PM Modi’s 75th Birthday Plans

On his 75th birthday, Modi will visit Madhya Pradesh. He will launch India’s biggest health outreach program for women and children—Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar. Along with this, the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah will also begin.

These campaigns will run from September 17 to October 2 in government hospitals and health centres across the country. Madhya Pradesh will also start Adi Seva Parv, focusing on health and nutrition.

From Sewa Diwas to Sewa Pakhwada

What started as a single day has now become Sewa Pakhwada, a two-week campaign of service. This year, it runs from September 17 to October 2, ending on the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.

During these two weeks, BJP leaders, workers, and citizens will take part in health check-ups, Swachh Bharat drives, awareness campaigns on nutrition, and welfare programs for the poor.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman wrote on X:

“In a few days, we shall mark Hon. PM @narendramodi’s birthday as a part of #SevaPakhwada2025. Wish to recall how, based on my experience, I see a strong leader in PM Modi who is caring and compassionate too. The day of my very first budget speech is one I will never forget…”

Sewa Diwas: More Than Just a Celebration

Sewa Diwas is more than a birthday celebration. It has become a movement for public good, encouraging people to volunteer, help the needy, and work for society. It also strengthens unity and community spirit.

Seva as Nation-Building

The Sewa Diwas is unique due to its connection to nation-building. PM Modi’s birthday is not about his own personal glory, but rather about inspiring others to build a more powerful, better, and cleaner India. It is consistent with his concept of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’.
