A doctor from Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh has been arrested after 11 children reportedly died from consuming contaminated cough syrup. As per The Times of India, the accused has been identified as Dr. Praveen Soni, who allegedly prescribed Coldrif syrup to several children, most of whom were treated at his clinic in the Parasia area.
Pharma Company Also Booked
Police have also filed a case against the Tamil Nadu-based pharmaceutical company that manufactured the syrup. Authorities suspect the medication was contaminated, and samples have reportedly been sent for lab testing to confirm toxicity.
Investigation Underway to Trace Source of Contamination
Officials are now probing how the tainted syrup reached patients and whether more units from the same batch remain in circulation. Local health authorities are reportedly conducting checks at pharmacies and clinics to prevent further distribution.
Families Demand Justice and Accountability
The tragic incident has sparked outrage among locals, with grieving families demanding strict action against both the medical practitioner and the drug manufacturer. Many have questioned the lack of oversight in rural healthcare prescribing practices.
Government Expected to Issue Health Advisory
With rising concerns over pediatric medication safety, authorities may soon issue public guidelines to prevent similar incidents. Health officials are also advising parents to avoid over-the-counter syrups without proper medical supervision.
