In a new turn in the tragic case of a woman doctor’s rape and suicide in Maharashtra’s Satara district, police have arrested Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane after he surrendered at the Phaltan Police Station. Badane, who had been on the run since his suspension, faces accusations of repeatedly raping the 28-year-old doctor and pushing her to take her own life. Authorities confirmed that he will be produced before the court on Sunday.
Second Arrest in Satara Doctor Suicide Case
This arrest follows the detention of another accused, Prashant Bankar, a software engineer and the son of the deceased doctor’s landlord. Bankar was taken into custody on Saturday on charges of mentally harassing the victim. His name, along with Badane’s, was mentioned in both the doctor’s four-page suicide note and a message written on her palm before she died.
The Incident and Accusations in Satara Doctor Suicide Case
The deceased, a government medical officer posted at the Phaltan sub-district hospital, hailed from Beed district. She was found hanging in a hotel room late Thursday night under suspicious circumstances.
In her note, the doctor accused Sub-Inspector Badane of raping her four times and Bankar of constant psychological harassment. She also alleged that a Member of Parliament (MP) and his personal assistants had pressured her to falsify medical reports to protect individuals involved in criminal cases.
Police Investigation Underway in Satara Doctor Suicide Case
Both accused have been booked at the Phaltan Police Station under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi confirmed that a detailed probe is ongoing into the rape and harassment allegations, as well as the possible political interference highlighted in her suicide note.
Political Pressure in Satara Doctor Suicide Case
The doctor’s note revealed that she had endured physical and mental abuse for more than five months and had filed 21 complaints to different authorities without receiving any meaningful response. One of her allegations claimed she was threatened over the phone by an MP after refusing to issue a false medical certificate.
Her cousin later backed these claims, stating that the doctor was repeatedly pressured to alter medical reports to favor politically connected individuals.
This case has sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra, with many demanding strict punishment for those responsible and accountability for the official negligence that failed to protect the young doctor.
