The Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking unit has dismissed viral social media posts alleging that Jagdeep Dhankhar’s official residence has been sealed and he was asked to vacate the bungalow after his sudden resignation as Vice President. The clarification comes amid widespread speculation on various platforms following his exit from the constitutional post.
“It is being widely claimed on social media that Vice President’s official residence has been sealed and former VP has been asked to vacate his residence immediately,” the PIB noted, adding that these claims are “fake”.
Dhankhar submitted his resignation on Monday evening, becoming the third Vice President in Indian history to step down mid-term. His resignation cited health concerns and invoked Article 67(a) of the Constitution, stating that he intended to “prioritise health care.”
Dhankhar Begins Packing Ahead of Early Exit
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Dhankhar began packing his personal belongings shortly after submitting his resignation at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He is expected to move out of the Vice President Enclave soon and shift into a Type VIII government bungalow.
“The packing is still going on. And there is a sense of hurry,” an official familiar with the development said.
Another official added, “Former Vice Presidents usually get a month to shift to a retirement home. But indications are clear that Dhankhar will leave the VP enclave earlier.”
First Occupant of New Enclave Prepares to Exit
Dhankhar was the first Vice President to occupy the newly constructed Vice President Enclave, located adjacent to the Parliament complex and behind the North Block. He moved into the residence in April last year.
His resignation letter to the President clearly outlined health concerns as the reason for his decision. The move has sparked public debate and online speculation, prompting the government to officially clarify the misinformation being spread.
