Since Friday night, heavy rains have been plaguing Himachal Pradesh, disrupting daily life and severely impairing connectivity in several districts. More than 400 highways are still blocked, and the state’s monsoon problems are being made worse by new landslide, flood, and structural damage incidents.
Mandi district, a key transit point for the Kullu-Manali region, bore the brunt of the rain fury, with 174 roads closed, severely disrupting movement. In Chamba district, over 100 roads have been shut, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). As rains pounded the hills, a bridge over the Beas River near Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur developed cracks due to the swelling waters.

Una Records Heaviest Rainfall, Schools Shut
The highest rainfall in the state was recorded in Una, a low-lying district bordering Punjab, which received 260.8 mm of rain. Due to waterlogging that damaged streets and marketplaces, the government decided to close schools until further notice. The Chandigarh-Dharamshala National Highway was also reported to be flooded, which put further strain on the transportation system.

Massive Damages Across the State
Since the onset of monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses of over ₹1,692 crore, according to government estimates. So far, 101 rain-related deaths have been reported, with 36 people still missing. Authorities also confirmed damage to 1,600 houses, either partially or fully. The monsoon season has triggered 51 flash floods, 28 cloudbursts, and 45 major landslides, causing unprecedented disruption across the state.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla visited rain-hit Mandi on Saturday to assess the situation. “The people of Himachal Pradesh have always shown remarkable courage and resilience in the face of adversity. The administration is working with urgency and dedication to provide relief and restore normalcy,” he said, as quoted by PTI.
