Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to launch the Vote Adhikar Yatra from Sasaram on Sunday. Announcing the program, senior Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh said the aim is to focus on what the party terms as a systemic assault on citizens’ right to vote during the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls in the state.
Gandhi should lead the Yatra for nearly 15 days, which is expected to last until September 1, covering 25 districts in the state. The final leg will culminate into a rally at Patna in a show of unity of leaders of the INDIA bloc ahead of the assembly elections.
Evolving a Political Momentum
According to the Congress, this is not just a protest but a mobilization against alleged large-scale deletion of voters. Singh said the government has systematically suppressed any parliamentary debate on the matter, despite persistent calling for one. He said its silence is a reecho of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s admonishment of a grave threat to the Constitution from one or the other ‘foolish or knacky.’

Anxiety Over the Electoral Rolls
The renewal of the electoral rolls has generated political unrest across party lines. Even NDA allies have raised concerns over the alleged mass deletions of the names of voters. Singh, however, said that the BJP and JD(U) remained silent, deliberately ignoring public rage.

He further predicted that with rising discontent against the Nitish Kumar-led government in alliance with the BJP, its days are surely numbered.
Symbolism of The Yatra
According to the Congress, this campaign is not just about irregularities but about safeguarding democracy itself. The RJD has also given out a campaign song in Hindi and Bhojpuri, with Tejashwi Yadav alongside Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that the battle really is about ensuring that no citizen is denied the right to vote.
As the ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ sets off, it positions itself as not only a political contest but also a moral crusade on the basis of the right to vote is equated not as a privilege granted by the state, rather it is the very foundation of democracy that has to be guarded with utmost jealousy.
