The blockbuster success of Kalki 2898 AD, which starred Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, has left the audience eagerly waiting for a sequel. Director Nag Ashwin and producer Ashwini Dutt had previously teased that production for Kalki 2 may be initiated by the end of 2025. In a recent podcast, though, when Ashwin was pressed to reveal the all-important timeline for the sequel, he gave a cautious answer, balancing enthusiasm with feasibility.

Nag Ashwin Speaks on Kalki 2

In response to a question regarding the release of Kalki 2, the director pointed out the scheduling issues along with the time-consuming sequences of the film.

“A lot of things are connected to it. The actors definitely have to come together. Some of the pre-visualized sequences and action sequences are much bigger, so it will take some time. I don’t have an exact answer to that question,” Ashwin said.

He went on to say that although the team is planning to begin shooting sometime towards the end of 2025, the production will take time. “Shooting will take some time, but post-production usually takes longer,” he said. “Hopefully in another 2 or 3 years,” he continued.

“Everyone is busy. We hope to start shooting by the end of this year. The shoot itself will take time, but post-production usually takes longer. Hopefully in another 2 or 3 years, that’s what I think.”

Can Prabhas Make Time For Kalki 2?

Prabhas, the linchpin of the franchise, is juggling a frenetic schedule with several top-line projects right now. He is finishing up Raja Saab, due for completion this month, while Prabhas Hanu is a longer-term commitment. Also, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is in preparation to begin Spirit in the September or October timeframe, and he has particular plans for keeping a different look for Prabhas, specific to that film’s style. With this hectic schedule, the question arises of how Prabhas will juggle the exhaustive demands of Kalki 2, which necessitates a wholly different look and rigorous preparation.
