The recently held 71st National Film Awards created a major buzz across social media. The spotlight shone on stars like Shah Rukh Khan, who won Best Actor for Jawan, Rani Mukerji, named Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, and Vikrant Massey, who received Best Actor for 12th Fail. While the film industry celebrated these honours, one prominent voice from television expressed disappointment.
Rupali Ganguly Questions Lack of Recognition for TV Artists
Television star Rupali Ganguly, who plays the beloved lead in Anupamaa, spoke out about the absence of National Awards for television performers. In a candid interaction with paparazzi account Viral Bhayani, she pointed out that while “there are National Awards for everyone from film stars to content creators,” the government doesn’t offer similar recognition to television actors.
She highlighted how during the COVID-19 pandemic, TV artists kept working without pause. “Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, others had the advantage of delaying their shooting schedules, but we kept working,” she said. Rupali added, “When a film star works continuously, it makes headlines. But no one talked about how we, the TV artists, worked non-stop from 6 am to 6 pm during the pandemic.”
Calling for equal respect, she made a heartfelt request: “I request the government to consider us also. We work very hard; it’ll be nice to have some validation.”
She Hopes Smriti Irani’s Return Will Uplift TV Industry
Rupali also shared her thoughts on Smriti Irani’s return to television, saying she sees it as a positive step for the industry. “Smriti Irani returned to TV with the new version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and it’s airing on the same channel as my show,” Rupali said proudly. “I am very proud that Smriti ji returned to TV, it’s such a big validation,” she noted.
She believes Irani’s comeback “will make a lot of difference, and it will bring all the eyes back to television.”
Fans Welcome Reboot of Iconic Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
Smriti Irani, who gained massive fame through the original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, has returned in the reboot of the classic show, produced by Ektaa Kapoor. The updated version has sparked nostalgia among fans and is already getting a warm response.
The cast includes familiar faces like Hiten Tejwani, Amar Upadhyay, Gauri Pradhan, and Kamalika Guha Thakurta.
Anupamaa Still Rules TV Ratings
Meanwhile, Anupamaa continues to hold the top position on the TRP charts for the fifth year in a row. Rupali’s performance as the central character has made her one of the most loved stars on Indian television.
Despite rumours of tension between the Anupamaa and Kyunki teams, Rupali and producer Ektaa Kapoor have denied the reports. They’ve also urged fans not to compare the two shows.
