Popular street food vendors offering tea, chhole bhature, rolls, gol gappas, and more often attract large crowds and seem to rake in significant sales daily. Ever wondered if running a food stall could earn you more than a typical job? To answer this, vlogger Sarthak Sachdeva set out to sell tea for a day and see how much he could make. His video, posted on Instagram, has gone viral with over 81 million views.
The vlogger teamed up with a tea stall owner in the morning, pricing each cup at Rs 10. Within an hour and a half, they sold 75 cups, and by noon, the number had reached 166. Although the afternoon was slower, business picked up again after 4 pm. By the end of the day, they had sold 317 cups, earning approximately Rs 3,150. Sachdeva estimated that this could translate to Rs 1,10,000 in a month and Rs 12-14 lakhs annually.

The video sparked mixed reactions online. One user commented, “Well it’s time to switch career paths,” while another wrote, “I was going to study but I ended up watching this reel.” Many also tagged friends, suggesting they start a tea stall together.
However, others pointed out flaws in the analysis. One viewer remarked, “Every day you can’t expect the same momentum in earning.. and please stop comparing earnings with education.” Another added, “Bro doesn’t understand the difference between revenue and profit.”
Some questioned the sustainability of the earnings. “Then all chaiwalas should’ve been rich? This exactly shows that this is not an everyday case,” argued one user, while another inquired, “What about the plastic cups cost? What about the cart rental cost? What about other miscellaneous cost?”
