Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a telephonic conversation with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday, taking stock of the worsening flood situation in the state. During the call, Shah assured the Chief Minister of all possible support from the Centre and informed that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with boats and helicopters, are being dispatched to assist the state in relief and rescue operations.
“Spoke with CM Tripura, @DrManikSaha2 Ji, and took stock of the flood situation in the state. The Centre is rushing teams of NDRF, apart from boats and helicopters, to the state to assist the local government in relief and rescue operations. Assured of all possible assistance from the Centre as and when required. The Modi government firmly stands with our sisters and brothers in Tripura during this hour of crisis,” Shah posted on X.
Heavy rains in the past few days have led to the overflowing of the Gomati River, causing severe flooding in several parts of the state, particularly in the capital city of Agartala. As a result, over 30,000 people have been displaced and moved to relief camps. There are also reports of casualties due to the floods.
Chief Minister Saha has been actively monitoring the situation, visiting flood-affected areas and relief camps in Agartala. He stated that the state government’s top priority is rescue and relief efforts. Currently, 321 relief camps are operational across the state to provide shelter and essential services to those displaced.
The Chief Minister also confirmed that one NDRF team from Assam has already arrived, with four more teams expected from Arunachal Pradesh soon. The government is focused on ensuring the safety, health, and hygiene of people stranded in the affected areas while continuing to coordinate rescue missions for those in vulnerable locations.
