Jaipur, the capital city, celebrates its 297th anniversary on November 18th, as it was founded in 1727. Amer Fort, situated 11 km from Jaipur, is a key attraction for tourists, and the Sheesh Mahal inside the fort captivates all who visit.
The Sheesh Mahal is constructed with 2.5 crore colorful glass pieces, including a glass floor. When a lamp is lit, the reflection on the glass creates the illusion of thousands of fireflies lighting up the palace.
The legend behind the Sheesh Mahal suggests that the queen wished to view the stars while resting at night. To fulfill her wish, this palace was designed so that when even just two candles are lit, the space fills with the illusion of thousands of stars. Built by Maharaja Mansingh, the fort is now managed by the government, and information boards have been set up for visitors.
Visitors to Jaipur should also explore the City Palace, built in 1729 by Sawai Jaisingh II, which blends Rajput, Mughal, and European architectural styles. Today, much of the palace is a museum with an entry fee. Diya Kumari, a member of the royal family and the current Finance Minister of Rajasthan, resides there with her family.
