Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy along with State Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior officials of the Irrigation Department are scheduled to meet Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Shekhawat today at 7 pm in Delhi.

In the previous year, the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme at Narlapur in Nagarkurnool district was inaugurated by former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy will now present the petition to seek national status for this project.

With a simple press of a button, he activated the colossal pumping station, initiating the wet run to extract water from the Krishna River and transfer it into the Anjanagiri reservoir, boasting an impressive capacity of 6.4 TMC.

The Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme aims to provide irrigation to upland areas of five districts – Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Vikarabad, Rangareddy and Nalgonda – totaling 10 lakh acres. There is also a proposal under consideration to expand the ayacut to 12. 0 lakh acres. The project lifts 2 TMC of water per day for 60 days during flood season from the Srisailam Reservoir, providing drinking water, industrial use and supply to Hyderabad.

The Telangana government has approved an administrative budget of Rs. 35,200 crores for the project. Main conduit work is divided into 21 packages, of which 18 from Narlapur to Udandapur Reservoir have been contracted. Survey work for ayacut areas is divided into 7 packages, with 6 already contracted. The tender for the remaining works is slated to be issued.
