The upcoming Lok Sabha Elections for the Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu are set to witness a high-stakes, three-cornered showdown. The BJP’s candidate, Devanathan Yadav, will be challenging Congress sitting MP Karti Chidambaram and A Xavierd of the AIADMK.

“Karti Chidambaram, the son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, is seeking a third term in the Lok Sabha from Sivaganga, which is considered a traditional Congress stronghold,” said a report.

“All 39 seats in Tamil Nadu will be contested in the first phase of the general elections on April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4,” it added.

“In the 2019 general elections, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes the Congress, VCK, MDMK, CPI, CPI(M), IUML, MMK, KMDK, TVK, and AIFB, won 38 out of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. The Congress secured 8 seats out of the nine it contested, while the NDA led by the BJP won only one seat,” the report mentioned.

“Devanathan Yadav, the BJP’s candidate from Sivaganga, claimed that there was an ‘anti-DMK wave’ across the state and that people were unhappy with the Chidambaram family. He alleged that neither P Chidambaram nor Karti had visited the constituency consistently since 1984,” it further said.

“Meanwhile, Karti Chidambaram stated that people are seeking change, and the manifesto provided by the Congress reflects this desire for change. He highlighted the distress among the people and the need for employment opportunities, emphasizing the Congress’s commitment to improving the situation,” it concluded.

“The election in Sivaganga is expected to be closely contested, with both the BJP and Congress vying for victory in the constituency,” the report noted.
