Sindh: Dengue cases soar to 896 in 2023

Dengue cases in Pakistan’s Sindh province have risen to 896 this year, with the mosquito-borne disease spreading rapidly in August, according to ARY News. ARY News is a news station in Pakistan. In August, 731 dengue cases were reported across Sindh.

In Karachi’s East district, 291 instances were reported, 126 in Central, 79 in Korangi, 136 in South, 20 in West, 40 in Malir, and 396 in Keamari. There were 103 reported cases in Hyderabad, 31 in Mirpur Khas, 14 in Larkana, 13 in Sukkur, and four in Shaheed Benazirabad.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) of Pakistan issued an advisory earlier this month amid a probable spike in dengue fever cases during the monsoon season, according to ARY News. According to the alert, the number of dengue virus cases skyrockets during the monsoon season, necessitating a strong attentive system to keep the numbers under control.

The authorities and the general public have been instructed to guarantee that mosquitos do not have access to egg-laying habitats through environmental management and modification. Domestic water storage containers should be covered and cleaned on a weekly basis to prevent the spread of dengue larva.

During epidemics, insecticides should be used as one of the emergency vector-control measures. People have been urged to wear full-sleeved clothing during the monsoon season to avoid mosquito bites.
