Shawn Mendes has ushered in a new era in his musical career with the release of his latest single, ‘Why Why Why,’ and its music video. The Canadian singer-songwriter also dropped a second track, ‘Isn’t That Enough,’ both of which are part of his upcoming fifth album, ‘Shawn.’ This release marks Mendes’ 26th birthday.
The music video for ‘Why Why Why,’ directed by Anthony Wilson and Connor Brashier, features Mendes performing in a rustic barn, beside a tranquil river, and on stage in an empty venue. The imagery aligns with the song’s emotional lyrics, where Mendes reflects on a past relationship and its lingering effects. The poignant lines, “Thought I was about to be a father… Why why why? Why why why?” are a focal point in the video, available on YouTube.
These new releases are Mendes’ first solo work since his charity single ‘What the Hell Are We Dying For?’ in 2023 and precede his first full album since 2020’s ‘Wonder.’ Earlier this month, Mendes shared details about ‘Shawn’ on social media, unveiling the album cover, a video trailer, and a heartfelt message about his creative journey.
In his message, Mendes expressed his gratitude, noting, “Music really can be medicine. Two years ago, I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn’t step into a studio without experiencing panic. So to be here now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.” He also extended thanks to his friends, family, and fans for their continuous support and patience.
