Congress MP Shashi Tharoor criticized the BJP’s ambitious slogan ‘Abki Baar 400 Paar,’ calling it a “complete fantasy.” He attributed the BJP’s success in the 2019 general elections to the national security narrative that emerged following the Pulwama terror attack and the subsequent Balakot airstrike. Tharoor emphasized that the elections, which should have been a referendum on the Modi government’s economic performance, were instead dominated by security concerns.
Speaking at a press conference in the National Capital, Tharoor pointed out the decline in voter turnout in BJP strongholds after the fifth phase of polling in the ongoing 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He claimed that replicating the BJP’s previous electoral success in these states would be impossible due to the dwindling enthusiasm among voters. Tharoor expressed confidence in the Congress-INDIA Alliance, noting the strong voter turnout in areas where their candidates contested.
Refusing to engage in the controversy surrounding Congress’s ally AAP and its Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, Tharoor emphasized the need to focus on pressing issues like unemployment and inflation. He criticized attempts to divert attention from these issues and urged the media not to be swayed by distractions.
As the National Capital gears up for polls on May 25, Shashi Tharoor remarks come amid ongoing electoral activity. With voting already completed in five phases and two more rounds scheduled, all eyes are on the final outcome, set to be announced on June 4.
