Raj Arjun, best known for his work in ‘Thalaivii’ and ‘Secret Superstar’, is currently in the limelight because of his intense performance in the Yami Gautam-led ‘Article 370’. The film centres on the events that led to the removal of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to The Daily Guardian, Raj Arjun revealed that he took up the film as the role excited him.
“Whenever a role comes my way, I see whether it can create a sense of excitement in me. This happened with the role in Article 370. I don’t have many scenes but somewhere I felt this would come out well if I did it with honesty,” he said.
The film is directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale in his directorial debut.. Raj Arjun enjoyed working with the newcomer and found him to be ‘mature’.
“I enjoyed the experience of working with Aditya as he is a mature person despite being a newcomer. He has been shooting since childhood and never worked like a newcomer on the set. He is open to suggestions. I also recall that he did not look at the script even once during the narration. Everything was so clear in his head,” added Raj.
Shot on a budget of Rs 20 crore, ‘Article 370’ collected nearly Rs 100 crore globally to emerge as a success. Additionally, it received positive reviews with critics praising the performances.
Interestingly, Raj Arjun was also seen in the recently-released Telugu historical action drama ‘Razakar’. The film centres on atrocities committed by the Razkars and the bravery of those who opposed them. Raj Arjun took up the film despite being unfamiliar with Telugu.
“I don’t understand a word of Telugu but I took this up as there is a thirst for good roles. I hired a Telugu tutor to prepare for Razakar. It’s not possible to perform without understanding the pronunciation and meaning of what I am to say,” said Raj Arjun.
‘Razakar’ hit screens on March 15 and impressed critics with his intense screenplay. It is directed by Yata Satyanarayana.
Raj Arjun, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front. He will soon be seen in ‘Yudhra’ and ‘Gum Gum Ganesha’.
