President Droupadi Murmu showed happiness over the sporting ties between India and Serbia. She showered praise on tennis legend Novak Djokovic and said that he is considered a role model and inspiration for millions of Indians.
President Murmu landed in Serbia on Wednesday for an official state visit. This is the first visit of any Indian head of state to Serbia. She got a red carpet welcome, was received by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and was accorded a guard of honour at the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade.
Addressing the Indian citizens living in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, President Murmu praised the remarkable performance of Novak Djokovic, who had 22 Grand Slams in his cupboard. She went on to say that Djokovic is extremely popular in India, and young tennis players want to emulate him.
She further added that many sports coaches from Serbia have worked with Indian athletes to improve their sporting skills.
Currently, Djokovic has been playing at the ongoing French Open 2023. He is always considered a favourite wherever he plays tennis. He has thrilled tennis fans across the world.
It is needless to add that the Serbian tennis legend is a sports icon worldwide. He is set to face World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the ongoing French Open championship.
