Proving exit polls and huge claims of victory by Congress in Haryana utterly wrong, the BJP has secured absolute majority in the elections. The results of the 14th Haryana Assembly surprised everyone. Congress, which was dreaming of ending its 10 years exile from power, and the ambitions of the three big leaders of the party who were on toes to become CM, have been shattered.

The key reasons for Congress’s defeat is believed to be the infighting between Congress stalwarts Bhupender Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja who were in the fray for the post of CM in the party. However, the party high command has made it clear that further action will be initiated by getting to the bottom of the reasons for the defeat.

After the exit polls, Congress started taking about a lead in 55 to 60 seats but as the voting rounds progressed, BJP started gaining lead by constantly overtaking Congress. The situation was such that till 12 AM, BJP was getting an edge in 50 seats while Congress was leading on just 34 seats in the 90 seats assembly .

Similarly, other parties including independence were leading in the remaining 6 seats. After this, till the final results came, BJP has been successful in maintaining its continuous lead with a good margin. Meanwhile, when the counting of rounds was going on in different assembly constituencies, BJP leaders kept claiming the exile of Congress will not end in Haryana and BJP will form the government for the third consecutive time.

Outgoing CM Nayab Singh Saini said: ‘’The public has completely rejected the lies of Congress. It is because of the blessings and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that we have been able to win the elections for the third consecutive time in a row in Haryana.
