Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Drass in Ladakh on July 26 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, marking the Indian forces’ victory in the 1999 Kargil War against Pakistan. He will address the nation and Army soldiers at the Kargil War Memorial, honoring the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives.
The Kargil War Memorial has been meticulously prepared for the Prime Minister’s address, symbolizing a place of remembrance and respect. Modi’s message will highlight the valor and dedication of the armed forces, uniting the nation in honoring the Kargil War heroes and ensuring their legacy endures.
Siddharth Dave, husband of retired army officer Captain Meera Siddharth Dave, shared their journey to Drass from Gujarat, inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to celebrating significant events with soldiers. They call their journey the “Kargil Vijay Gyan Yatra,” emphasizing the personal significance of this day for their family.
In preparation for the visit, Lt Governor of Ladakh Brig (Retd) B D Mishra held a meeting to ensure all arrangements are in place, emphasizing timely completion of necessary preparations.
This visit follows Modi’s 2022 Diwali celebration with soldiers in Kargil, where he laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial. Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates Operation Vijay’s success in 1999, where Indian forces reclaimed strategic positions infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.
