Smartphones in the mid-range market are flooded with options and for one to make its mark is not easy. We have manufacturers who even during the pandemic haven’t stopped flooding the market with options. Recently, I have been using the Oppo Reno 4 Pro and the device is a good mix of all. One thing which makes it stand out is that it is pocket friendly. Highlight of the device is the 65W rapid charging which, thanks to Reno4 Pro, is now available in a mid-range phone. I have always had a strong opinion about the Oppo’s designing of devices. More than often, I have not been left impressed but the case with Reno 4 Pro is a bit different.

 Looks & design

Reno 4 Pro, even though it is all plastic built but nowhere did it feel less premium. The best quality is the weight, mere 161 gm. The matte finish at the back might not be the best in the class but for me it did stand out. One thing for sure, your phone is not slippery and you get a good grip of that. The four-lens camera set up has been sleekly placed which does take some time to grow on you. The power button gets a green line which looks fun and no one ever minds a headphone jack. The screen is a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD resolution. The phone sports a 90Hz display and gets Gorilla Glass 5.

Performance

Oppo Reno 4 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G. The chipset is not the best but daily performance of the device is good. It is surely not a device meant for gamers. You get Color OS 7.2, based on Android 10, on the Reno 4 Pro. It offers a host of features and customisation capabilities.

Camera

Camera is always an important part in any of OPPO’s devices. This one gets 4 lenses: Standard and ultra-wide cameras and no telephoto lens. These include 48MP, f/1.7, primary sensor, 8MP, f/2.2, 119-degree ultra-wide sensor, 2MP, f/2.4, macro sensor and 2MP, f/2.4, depth sensor. The device comes with a 32MP selfie camera and offers 4K 30fps video recording. The device has a capable ultra-wide lens and an above average standard lens. But the low light photography remains to be an issue. The night pictures did look good and were worth a shot. If you are someone who likes to post a lot of pictures on social media, then Reno 4 Pro would not disappoint you. But in case you want to carry out some special photography, then you might like to look towards its competitors. The high point in the camera section is the ultrawide lens. Even when you blow up the imagination it doesn’t distort at all.

Battery & storage

The phone offers 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage. Oppo Reno 4 Pro has a battery capacity of 4000 mAh.

Final verdict

Oppo Reno 4 Pro is a device with a great display, fast 65W charging and has a very appealing design. What it really misses is a good chipset. The camera could have been a bit better as well. The device in India is launched at Rs 34,990. The device competes against OnePlus Nord and Vivo x50 pro. Reno 4 Pro is a device for someone who is looking for a good light device, is not a gamer and would like a 4-camera set up.
