Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has approved a substantial allocation of Rs 1170.16 crore for 29 road projects in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The sanctioned projects, encompassing state highways, major roads, and district roads, aim to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in this strategically significant region.

In addition to the road projects, Gadkari revealed that Rs 181.71 crore has been allocated for eight bridges under the CRIF Scheme for the fiscal year 2023-24. The Minister emphasized the pivotal role these initiatives play in fostering economic activities, particularly in agriculture and tourism, while improving connectivity to remote villages in Ladakh.

Taking to social media, Gadkari underscored the importance of the approved projects for Ladakh, the largest Union Territory in terms of area and the second least populous in India. The government’s commitment to comprehensive development and connectivity in such strategic regions is evident through the allocation of funds for road projects and bridge development.

The diverse portfolio of road projects reflects a tailored approach to Ladakh’s unique geographical and connectivity needs. Given Ladakh’s challenging topography and geographical remoteness, the approved initiatives are poised to facilitate smoother transportation and drive economic progress in the region.

Gadkari’s announcement aligns with the broader vision of the government to create robust infrastructure networks, fostering local development and contributing to the overall advancement of the nation. The infusion of funds into road projects and bridge development demonstrates a dedicated focus on enhancing connectivity and promoting comprehensive growth in strategically important areas like Ladakh.
