National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma proudly exercised her voting rights in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha election on Saturday, marking herself as the first senior citizen to vote at her designated booth. Posting on X, chief Rekha Sharma shared her accomplishment alongside a photo displaying her inked finger and a certificate from the District Election Office, urging fellow citizens to participate in the electoral process and select their leaders.
Earlier, Bansuri Swaraj, the BJP candidate from New Delhi constituency, cast her vote, echoing Sharma’s call for voter participation. Describing the election as a “mega festival of democracy,” Swaraj encouraged people to fulfill their civic duty by casting their votes. Before casting her vote, Swaraj sought blessings at the Jhandewalan temple, expressing reverence for Jhandewali Mata.

Voting commenced early in the morning across 58 parliamentary constituencies spread over six states and two Union Territories, marked by stringent security measures. Polling stations opened at 7 am and will close at 6 pm, with provision for those in line at closing time to cast their votes.
In Delhi alone, voting is taking place across seven parliamentary constituencies: Chandni Chowk, East Delhi, New Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, South Delhi, and West Delhi. Over 11.13 crore voters are expected to participate in this phase, determining the fate of 889 candidates, including former Chief Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar contesting from Karnal as the BJP candidate and Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP nominee from Anantnag-Rajouri.
The sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls spans eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four seats in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six seats in Odisha, 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, and eight seats in West Bengal.
