Jammu, Sept 17: I a major success Two terrorists were killed in a joint counter-terrorism operation launched by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district after specific intelligence inputs about their presence in the area, officials said on Thursday.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Sohan”, was launched during the intervening night of September 16 and 17 in the Brattal area of Udhampur district. Acting on confirmed intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists, troops of the Army’s White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a coordinated search and cordon operation.
Despite hostile weather conditions, difficult mountainous terrain and poor visibility, security forces closed in on the suspected location of the terrorists. During the operation, an encounter broke out, leading to the killing of two terrorists.
Officials said the operation was based on precise intelligence and was aimed at preventing the movement of terrorists in the region. The identities and group affiliation of the slain terrorists were yet to be officially disclosed.
Security forces have intensified search and surveillance operations in the area to ensure that no other terrorists remain hidden in the forested belt. Additional reinforcements have been deployed, and the area remains under a tight security cordon.
The Army’s White Knight Corps, in a statement, said that the joint intelligence-based operation resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists and that the operation was still in progress.
The successful operation comes amid heightened anti-terror operations across the Jammu region, particularly in the mountainous districts of Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Kathua, where security agencies have stepped up surveillance and area domination patrols to prevent infiltration and terrorist movement.
Officials said further details, including recovery of weapons and other war-like stores, are expected once the operation concludes. Security forces remain deployed in the area to track and neutralise any remaining threat.
