A. “Muntazir” holds a special place in my heart as it signifies the state of being hopeful and waiting. Dedicated to the concept of ‘Intezaar’ (waiting), the poems in this collection encapsulate a range of emotions tied to anticipation and the longing for that perfect moment in life. The name “Muntazir” embodies the essence of the book, reflecting the journey of hope and expectation that resonates with the human experience.
Q. Can you share your journey of writing and how it evolved over the years?
A. My journey of writing poetry is deeply intertwined with my sensitivity towards societal issues from childhood. Observing various social dynamics and having my unique perspective on them laid the foundation for my poetic expressions. My diaries, dating back to the 1970s, are filled with verses that reflect my evolving thoughts and emotions over the years.
Q. How has your profession as an advocate influenced or impacted your poetic endeavors?
A. Interestingly, my profession as an advocate and my passion for poetry coexist harmoniously in my life. While one sustains me financially, the other nourishes my soul. Although time constraints may occasionally pose challenges, I find that poetic inspiration flows effortlessly, often without deliberate effort on my part.

A. “Muntazir” delves into the symphony of life, where anticipation and expectations play the sweetest notes. The anthology portrays a spectrum of melancholic emotions such as longing, the pain of separation, and isolation, intertwined with a perennial sense of hope. Many poems in the collection are adorned with nature’s metaphors, lending a surreal quality to the verses.

A. My poetic journey has been enriched by the works of renowned poets such as Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Ustaad Waris Shah, Mirza Ghalib, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and various modern Urdu poets. Their profound verses have influenced my thought process and served as a wellspring of inspiration for my own poetic expressions.

A. While I’ve been fortunate to receive abundant appreciation for my books, constructive feedback has also been invaluable. I view criticism as an opportunity for growth and improvement, and I’m open to incorporating positive suggestions into future editions of my works.
Q. Are there any plans to adapt your poetry into musical compositions?
A. One of the ghazals from my book “Phoori” has already been set to music by a talented singer. I’m enthusiastic about potential collaborations to bring more of my poetry to life through musical compositions in the future.

A. Selected poems from my books “Phoori” and “Muntazir” have been adapted into short films, featuring my recitations. The overwhelming response to these cinematic interpretations, available on platforms like YouTube, has been immensely gratifying and encouraging.

A. Currently, I’m immersed in crafting my third poetry book, this time in Punjabi. The work is already underway, and I’m excited to continue exploring new themes and expressions through my poetic endeavors.

It’s a symbolic gesture that underscores my unwavering commitment to protecting our precious natural resources.

A. My love affair with nature traces back to the earliest moments of my childhood. Whether it was exploring the woods on a holiday, marveling at the delicate intricacies of a flower, or basking in the tranquility of a serene lake, each encounter with nature left an indelible impression on my soul. As I matured, my appreciation for nature deepened, fueled by experiences like hiking through majestic mountains, camping under starlit skies, and witnessing the breathtaking spectacle of a sunrise painting the horizon with vibrant hues.
