In a surprising turn of events, immigration officials at Bengaluru airport’s Terminal 2 detained a man who had been missing for four years. According to a report in The Indian Express, Mohammad Wajid, a native of Perambur, was intercepted while boarding a flight to Thailand on Tuesday morning.

Wajid’s disappearance dates back to March 23, 2020, when his wife, Bhamita, filed a missing persons report at Chennai’s Thousand Lights police station. The report stated that Wajid had vanished after suffering significant business losses, leaving his home without informing anyone.

A senior police officer at Bengaluru airport explained the situation: “Tamil Nadu police issued a lookout notice for Wajid several years ago. The immigration officers identified him while he was boarding an IndiGo flight to Thailand. Upon cross-checking his documents, they found the lookout notice and detained him.”

Following his detention, Wajid was sent back to Chennai. The Chennai police were promptly informed, and officers flew to Bengaluru to escort him home. Despite his lengthy absence, Wajid had reportedly managed to repay most of his debts, and there were no longer any significant issues preventing his return to his hometown.

This unexpected resolution brings an end to a four-year-long search for Mohammad Wajid, offering closure to his family and the authorities involved.
