One person was killed and at least six others were injured in a mass shooting at Maplewood Park in Rochester, New York, on Sunday evening (local time).
Rochester police arrived at the scene around 6:20 p.m. in response to reports of gunfire at a large gathering, where they discovered multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
A 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, and another person is in critical condition.
Five additional victims were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Capt. Greg Bello. The name of the deceased has not been released pending family notification, Bello confirmed.
The shooting prompted a large response from various law enforcement agencies, including Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police, and New York State Police. The police confirmed that the incident occurred during a party at the park, but the exact details leading up to the violence are still unclear.
“We do not yet know how many people were involved in the shooting,” Bello said. “We are currently working through witness accounts to piece together what happened.”
No arrests have been made so far. Authorities are asking anyone with video footage or additional information to contact Major Crimes, Crime Stoppers, or call 311 or 911.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are seeking public assistance to resolve this tragic incident. Rochester, located about 340 miles northwest of Manhattan, remains on high alert as authorities continue their investigation.
