Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly defended the Union Budget 2024-25 against opposition criticism on Thursday. Rijiju accused opposition leaders of focusing on political tactics rather than offering constructive feedback. He described the budget as “historical” and criticized the opposition for what he deemed disrespectful remarks that undermined the democratic process and the budget’s significance.

Rijiju emphasized that the budget is designed to position India as the world’s third-largest economy, with allocations for infrastructure, women, employment, and farmers. He urged a meaningful discussion on the budget, dismissing opposition critiques as purely negative and politically motivated.

Opposition MPs, including those from the INDIA bloc, protested the budget within Parliament, labeling it “discriminatory” and accusing the Finance Minister of empty promises. Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge expressed their dissatisfaction on social media, criticizing the budget for allegedly favoring allies and failing to address common citizens’ needs.
