Kavach: Anti Train Collision System Tested Successful

North Central Railway Agra division conducted to examination the anti-train collision system ‘Kavach’ in a semi-high speed engine at 160 kmph speed. The trail has shown promising results claimed by the railways.

Kavach- developed by the RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation) is well equipped to apply brakes automatically in case of any emergency when a train driver for any reason fails to act on time. The Indian Railways is in full form to implement this system across its network to enhance operational safety.

Prashashti Srivastava, PRO, Agra Rail Division said, “The driver of the locomotive was asked not to apply brakes after observing a red signal ahead. We wanted to examine if Kavach would apply brakes on its own and bring the train to a halt before the signal,” she said.

“The participating engineers and officials were happy to note that the locomotive stopped 30 meters before the red signal. It also met other safety parameters,” she added.

The Kavach is added with a semi-high speed engine, WAP-5, that si capable of pulling passengers at 160 kmph.

Believing the RDSO officials, it is only a 125 km stretch between Delhi and Agra where trains can run at their maximum speed.

This technology will not only help loco pilots to but also ensure enhanced safety and efficiency of the train.
