Kareena Kapoor Khan recently participated in a roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter India, alongside Vicky Kaushal, Shabana Azmi, Rajkummar Rao, and Anna Ben. During the discussion, Kareena reflected on the emotional impact of Laal Singh Chaddha’s box office performance on her and co-star Aamir Khan, describing the experience as profound and deeply personal.
Sharing her thoughts, Kareena emphasized her pride in the film, calling it “beautiful and honest.” Despite its failure to perform commercially, she praised Aamir as a “stalwart and legend,” revealing that he was “shattered” by the outcome. Recalling an encounter with Aamir, Kareena shared his light-hearted comment, “Picture nahi chali humari na, tu baat toh karegi na mujhse?” (Our movie didn’t work. You will still talk to me, right?).
Kareena expressed gratitude for her role as Rupa in the film, saying, “I feel what Rupa has done for me is more than what a Singham (Again) can do.” When Shabana Azmi asked for more details, Kareena explained that Rupa was a beautifully written character, offering her an opportunity to explore depth in her performance. She highlighted that Laal Singh Chaddha was made with genuine passion, adding, “We didn’t think it would hit Rs 500 crore. It was about the honesty of the story.”
Kareena also revealed a personal connection to the film, recalling how she discovered her pregnancy with her second son, Jeh, during production. She shared the news with Aamir midway through filming, encouraged by Saif Ali Khan. Aamir responded with unwavering support, saying, “I’m happy for you. We’ll wait for you, and we’ll finish the movie together.” This gesture reinforced her belief in the industry’s kindness. “It made me realise there are people who truly value you and your decisions,” she said.
