Karan Johar is back in the director’s chair after six long years with his latest film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. But it’s not just his movie that’s making headlines. Recently, Karan opened up about his relationship status, and let’s just say, he’s totally cool with being single.
In a chat with Faye D’Souza, Karan shared that he has only been in “one and a half relationships” in his entire life. Yes, you read that right – one and a half! He used to look for love in his 40s, but now that he’s 50, he’s done searching. “I am single and haven’t been in a relationship for a very long time,” Karan said with a chuckle. “I can’t tell you how much I enjoy my single status. “I don’t see myself changing it now. Sharing a bathroom, bedroom, or even your personal space and schedule is out of the question. Having control over your own day is empowering. My responsibilities are only to my kids and my mom, and that’s enough.”
Karan Johar even admitted that he tried everything from agencies to blind dates, both in India and abroad, but nothing clicked. Now, he’s perfectly content with his single status. “If I find it well and good, I don’t feel the need for it at all,” he added.
But that’s not all Karan had to say. He also talked about how his production house practices self-censorship to avoid unnecessary legal troubles. Karan reflected on the difficulties Indian filmmakers encounter, noting, “There’s apprehension about legal entanglements. We now have legal departments in every organization.” We don’t want court cases, we don’t want FIRs filed against us, so we are protected.”
Every script from Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment undergoes internal legal censorship before being greenlit. “It’s not that we are afraid,” Karan clarified, “we just don’t want the stress and pressure of fighting court cases and putting our energy into something that we can do very well without.”
