Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) was recently re-released in theaters as part of a film festival celebrating Kareena Kapoor’s 25-year career in cinema. A fan, Sanjana Singh, who attended the screening, shared her experience on Instagram, showcasing the audience’s enjoyment as they recited a memorable dialogue from the film in unison.
The film was a major success, and many of its dialogues have become favorites among fans. One particularly beloved exchange occurs between Kajol and Farida Jalal’s characters, Anjali and Sayeeda Begum (Daijaan). In a memorable scene, Anjali chastises her son while playfully imitating British speech, stating, “Oh, hello, Mrs. Sprightley! Oh, hello, Sugar! Would you like some tea? Yes! With a drop of lemon in it. Oh! And something to go with it? Some cookies, please. Cookiesssss, Lovelyyyyyy! CHADDO (drop it)!”.
At the theater, the audience joyfully repeated the lines together, erupting in laughter when the scene concluded. Sanjana captured the moment, posting the clip with the caption, “Lovelyyyyyyyyy! Forever iconic @karanjohar @kajol @dharmamovies #k3g #kabhikhushikabhigham.” The accompanying text read, “To hear all the theatre say the whole dialogue, word by word. Insane. Iconic. Inimitable (pinched fingers emoji).”
Viewers reacted enthusiastically to the clip. One commenter expressed, “I am glad I witnessed it! The claps at Vande Mataram gave me goosebumps. The film festival, which showcases Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, runs from September 20 to September 27, featuring over 30 cinemas in 15 cities.
