During the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ program, Union Minister Amit Shah stated on Sunday that Indore, renowned for its cleanliness, cuisine, and effective governance, will also earn recognition as a green city. This follows the planting of 11 lakh saplings in a single day under the initiative launched by PM Modi.

In the previous month, on World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, urging people in India and globally to plant a tree in honor of their mothers in the days ahead.

Addressing the gathering here on Sunday, Amit Shah said, “The whole country will witness when 11 lakh saplings will be planted here in Indore. Today every person across the country will plant a tree in the name of his mother and pay respect to his mother and Mother Earth.”

“I have come to Indore, a city that is known across the country for cleanliness, food, good governance and cooperation. From today onwards, Indore will also be known after the plantation of saplings in the name of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam program,” he added.

The Home Minister lauded the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, noting that it allows people to honor both their mothers and Mother Earth simultaneously.

“When PM Modi began ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, nobody knew that it would become a revolution. Now everyone is planting a sapling and greeting both their mothers and Mother Earth simultaneously,” Shah further stated.

He mentioned that Indore, having already attained status as a smart city, metro city, clean city, and modern education hub, will now also be recognized as a green city.

“Indore has already become a smart city, it has also become a metro city, a clean city, a modern education hub and now Indore will be known as a green city,” Shah further said.

Actor Randeep Hooda attended the event in Indore. The Home Minister praised his performance in the recent movie ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,’ which portrays a detailed biographical account of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s life, highlighting significant events from his childhood onwards, often portraying him in a reverential manner.

On social media platform X, the Home Minister announced that Indore will set a world record by planting 11 lakh saplings in a single day as part of the campaign.

“Today is a special day when Indore residents are going to create a world record by planting 11 lakh saplings. Under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam campaign started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, I will also plant trees in the BSF campus of Revati Range in Indore,” he posted.

“Environmental protection has been one of the biggest priorities of the Modi government and the government has made tree plantation a matter of public awareness. Also, this afternoon I will inaugurate 55 Prime Minister Colleges of Excellence in all the districts of Madhya Pradesh,” Shah further stated.

Earlier in the day, Amit Shah visited the Pitreshwar Hanuman Mandir in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav joined him.

Later, Shah is scheduled to inaugurate 55 Excellence Colleges in 55 districts of the state, beginning at Atal Bihari Art and Commerce College.

On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the planting of 140 crore trees nationwide under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav committed to planting 5.5 crore trees in the state as part of this campaign.

PM Modi launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on June 5, planting a Peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi, accompanied by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
