Chaithanya Madhagani, a 36-year-old woman from Hyderabad in Telangana, was found dead in Australia. Her husband, who is the prime suspect in the case according to Australia’s Victoria Police, fled to India without informing the authorities, and reportedly handed over their child to her parents.
According to investigators Chaithanya’s body was discovered on Saturday in a wheelie bin at the side of the road in Buckley. After becoming citizens of Australia, Chaithanya and her husband Ashok Raj Varikuppala, together with their son, had settled in Point Cook.
Uppal MLA Bandari Lakshma Reddy, who represents the constituency where Chaithanya resided in India, met her parents after coming to know about her tragic death. He also sent a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) requesting that the victim’s body be returned to Hyderabad in response to their request.
The MLA also alleged that their son-in-law “confessed” to killing their daughter based on the details given by her parents. He added that the deceased’s spouse went to Hyderabad and gave his in-laws custody of their child.
Australia’s Victoria Police stated that the death is being investigated as suspicious and that a second crime scene has been set up at a domestic location on Mirka Way, Point Cook, and is thought to be related to the homicide. According to the statement, the perpetrator may have fled abroad and it is assumed that the persons involved know one another at this point in the investigation.
