The Kamal Haasan-led ‘Indian 2’ is set to open in theatres on Friday, July 12, much to the delight of fans. The film features Ulaganayagan as Senapathy, a character he first played on the big screen in Indian (1996). The eagerly-awaited sequel has created a great deal of buzz among cine-goers with its intense trailer.
The fact that it is directed by Shankar and will be his first release after ‘2.0’ (2018) has further added to the curiosity surrounding the vigilante-thriller. These factors are likely to help ‘Indian 2’ open to a thunderous response at the Tamil Nadu box office.

“The movie is coming after Vikram, which was a big blockbuster for Kamal sir. Then of course it is a Shankar film. This is a big combination and these stars are big names individually. I feel the day 1 gross in Tamil Nadu should be nearly Rs 10 crore and can go even higher,” he told News X.
If this prediction holds, ‘Indian 2’ will outperform ‘Aayalan’ and ‘Captain Miller’. The Sivakarthikeyan-led film earned Rs 3.5 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu. Similarly, Dhanush’s actioner secured an opening of Rs 6.5 crore.
‘Indian 2’, directed by ace filmmaker S Shankar, is a vigilante drama that revolves around an aged freedom fighter’s fight against corruption. It stars Kamal Haasan in the titular role and will be his first release as a leading man after the Lokesh Kanagaraj-helmed actioner Vikram (2022). Indian 2 stars Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Gulshan Grover, and the late Vivekh in the lead. Kajal Aggarwal will appear opposite Haasan in ‘Indian 3’. Anirudh Ravichander has composed music for the second part of the Indian franchise.
