At least nine people died in a stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, early Saturday. The tragedy occurred when thousands of devotees flocked to the shrine to offer prayers on the occasion of Ekadashi.
Chief Minister Expressed Grief on stampede Incident at Venkateswara Swamy Temple
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep shock over the tragedy. “The incident of stampede at the Venkateswara Temple in Kashibugga of Srikakulam district has caused a shock. The death of devotees in this tragic incident is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” he posted on X.
Naidu has instructed district officials to see that the injured are provided quick and proper medical treatment. He also asked local authorities and public representatives to personally visit the site and monitor ongoing rescue and relief operations.
Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan posted on X expressing grief, “It is extremely tragic that 9 devotees lost their lives in a stampede that occurred due to thousands of devotees thronging for darshan of Lord Venkateswara at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple…The government will take all possible measures to ensure that the injured in this incident receive the best treatment…”

What Caused stampede at Venkateswara Swamy Temple
The incident happened when the number of devotees who had gathered here to pray on the occasion of Ekadashi was immense, officials said, adding that the resultant overcrowding triggered panic and then the stampede. The injured persons were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police soon reached the scene and restored order at the temple premises.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the incident and announced financial aid to the victims. The PMO confirmed ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
The PMO posted on X, “Pained by the stampede in Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon.”
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the tragedy, while relief operations continue at the temple site.
