Bikram Singh Majithia has once again received a death threat, with a WhatsApp message sent from the same number that had issued a similar warning earlier, raising serious concerns over his security and the growing reach of gangster networks in Punjab.
According to information available, the message warned Majithia to “live a few more days, the trailer is coming soon”, indicating a direct threat to his life. What has heightened alarm is the fact that the threat has come from the same number used previously, pointing to a possible lapse in tracking and preventive action despite earlier complaints.
This is not the first time Majithia has been targeted. He had earlier reported receiving a similar life threat from the same contact, following which security concerns had been flagged. The recurrence of the threat from an unchanged source has now intensified questions over the effectiveness of law enforcement response and cyber surveillance.
The incident comes amid a wider pattern of threats being issued to prominent personalities across Punjab, many of which have been linked to the network of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Despite being behind bars, Bishnoi’s syndicate is believed to operate through an extensive network of aides who continue to run extortion and intimidation operations using digital platforms.
In recent months, several singers, businessmen, social media influencers and political figures in Punjab have reported receiving threatening messages and calls, often demanding money or issuing warnings. Intelligence inputs suggest that such threats are frequently routed through internet based numbers and encrypted applications like WhatsApp, making it difficult for agencies to trace their exact origin.
Security agencies have flagged that gangster networks are increasingly leveraging technology to expand their reach beyond geographical limitations. The use of recurring numbers in threats, as seen in Majithia’s case, also points towards either deliberate psychological intimidation or gaps in enforcement mechanisms.
Majithia, a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal and a prominent opposition voice, has often been at the centre of political confrontations in Punjab. The latest threat is likely to trigger a political storm, with questions expected to be raised over the state’s law and order situation and the safety of public figures.
Punjab Police has reportedly initiated a fresh probe, with cyber teams examining the number and tracing the digital trail of the message. However, the repetition of such threats underscores a deeper concern that organised gangster networks continue to operate with relative impunity.
The episode once again brings focus on the expanding influence of the Bishnoi gang and similar syndicates, which have been repeatedly linked to high profile threats and violent incidents across northern India. For Punjab, the latest threat to Majithia serves as another reminder of the persistent challenge posed by organised crime and the urgent need for a more robust response.
