On August 15, 2025, India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day. Once again, the historic Red Fort in Delhi will be the centre of the celebrations. PM Narendra Modi will hoist the tricolour and deliver his speech from the ramparts of the Lal Quila. After his address, a grand parade will fill the air with patriotic songs, colourful displays, and a show of military strength.
This year’s theme is Naya Bharat, which means “New India.” The aim is to build a stronger, richer, and more self-reliant nation by the year 2047, when India will mark 100 years of independence.
Public Access Gets a Digital Boost
This year, the government has made it easier for people to attend the celebrations in person. For the first time, citizens can book their seats online. The goal is to allow more people to be part of the event, beyond the usual list of official invitees.
