Delhi BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi accidentally fell into the Yamuna River while shooting a reel for an awareness campaign about cleaning the polluted river. The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, added fuel to the ongoing political debate between the BJP and AAP over the state of the Yamuna during the Chhath Puja celebrations.
The Viral Slippery Moment
In a 19-second clip, Negi is seen kneeling by the banks of the Yamuna, holding two bottles. As he tries to get up, he loses balance and slips into the river. A man nearby attempts to help but fails to stop the fall. The drenched MLA then grabs a bamboo pole to pull himself out. Though the location of the video is unclear, the visuals have triggered wide reactions online.

@Saurabh_MLAgk pic.twitter.com/dwTZcW4QWe— Sanjeev Jha (@Sanjeev_aap) October 26, 2025
AAP Takes a Dig on the Moment
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sanjeev Jha shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) and mocked Negi. “Making empty promises has become a profession for BJP leaders in Delhi,” Jha wrote, adding, “Perhaps fed up with the politics of lies and showing off, Yamuna maiyya herself called them to her side.”
Political War Over Yamuna Cleanliness
The incident comes at a time when both the BJP and AAP are blaming each other for the poor condition of the Yamuna River. With Chhath Puja celebrations ongoing, the river’s pollution levels have become a major political talking point. Both parties have accused each other of misleading the public about the river’s cleanliness.
AAP Challenges BJP on Yamuna Claims
Earlier, AAP Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj challenged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to prove her claim that the Yamuna was clean. Bharadwaj reached her residence with a bottle of murky, greyish water taken from the river.
“This is water collected from the Yamuna flowing through Delhi. We want to offer this water to Rekha Gupta ji. If she says the Yamuna is clean, she should drink it,” he said.
Chhath Puja Amid Political Chaos
Chhath Puja, which involves devotees offering prayers to the Sun God on the Yamuna banks, has once again highlighted Delhi’s pollution crisis. Videos of dirty water and floating debris have gone viral, sparking public anger. The incident involving Negi has now become symbolic of the broader failure to address the Yamuna’s contamination despite repeated promises.
