Banks will be closed for five days in the next week from October 27 to November 2 in some parts of India, due to Chhath Puja and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birthday, announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Bank holidays in India vary by state, depending on national, regional, and religious celebrations.
Chhath Puja Bank Holidays
Banks in Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi will be closed on Monday, October 27, for Chhath Puja. In Patna and Ranchi, banks will also remain closed on Tuesday, October 28, resulting in four consecutive days off when combined with the weekend.
Chhath Puja 2025, a four-day festival dedicated to the Sun God, will be celebrated from October 25 to 28. The festival is widely observed in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. Devotees perform rituals such as fasting, bathing in sacred rivers, and offering prayers to the Sun God to show gratitude for life and seek blessings for health, prosperity, and well-being.
Bank Holiday for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday
Banks in Ahmedabad will remain closed on Friday, October 31, 2025, in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A key figure in India’s independence movement, Patel also served as the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister from 1947 to 1950. So banks are closed on this auspicious day.
Regional Bank Holidays: Kannada Rajyotsava and Igas Bagwal
On Saturday, November 1, banks in Bengaluru will be closed for Kannada Rajyotsava, which celebrates the formation of Karnataka.
Similarly, banks in Dehradun will be closed for Igas Bagwal, observed 11 days after Diwali on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. The festival marks the end of Lord Vishnu’s four-month rest period, considered an auspicious time for new beginnings. It is also believed to commemorate the news of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya, celebrated locally as Uttarakhand’s post-Diwali festival.
Bank Operations on Saturday, November 1
Banks across India will remain open on November 1, 2025, except in Bengaluru and Dehradun, where regional holidays are observed. As it is the first Saturday of the month, banks will operate normally in other areas. According to the RBI calendar, banks are usually closed on the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays, including November 2.
Services Available on Bank Holidays
Online banking and digital payment services are expected to remain operational throughout the bank holidays, allowing customers to carry out financial transactions conveniently.
