The Red Fort blast killed 13 people and injured many, placing Delhi and nearby states on high alert without any delay.

Kashmiri Doctor Muzamil Arrested

The Red Fort blast soon got linked to a major terror module arrest, triggered by the earlier arrest of a Kashmiri doctor, identified as Dr. Muzammil Ganaie, also referred to as Muzammil Shakeel.

Dr. Muzammil, a professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, had been initially taken into custody after being linked with pro-Jaish-e-Mohammed posters in Srinagar. Interrogation and raids that followed revealed a “white-collar terror ecosystem” and an unprecedented haul of terror-related materials, underlining a network of radicalized professionals operating across states.

2,900 kg of Material Linked to Red Fort Blast

The investigation, which involved coordinated searches in J&K, Haryana, and UP, resulted in the recovery of a huge cache from Dr. Muzammil’s rented accommodation in Faridabad.

The total recovery from the module was close to 2,900 kg of IED-making material, including an estimated 360 kg of highly inflammable material suspected to be ammonium nitrate, though initially scrutinized for RDX, besides assault rifles, pistols, chemical substances, timers, batteries, and other bomb-making components.

Al-Falah University Connection with Red Fort Blast

Visuals were shared from outside Al-Falah University, where Dr. Muzammil taught, highlighting his use of a professional cover. Another Doctor Dr Sajad Ahmad Mala, a colleague of Dr. Muzammil from Al-Falah University, was also involved.

An AK-47 assault rifle allegedly linked to Dr. Muzammil was recovered from her personal car a Swift Dzire. Police have said she has not been formally arrested but is under intense scrutiny and questioning since her vehicle might have been loaned out without her knowledge regarding its illegal use. This recovery further underlined the wide logistical support and arms component of the module.

What is RDX?

Royal Demolition explosive, or RDX, is a powerful military-grade explosive often suspected in terror attacks. It is a white, crystalline solid that is significantly more powerful than TNT.

In a terror context, RDX is usually present as the main ingredient, about 91%, in C-4 plastic explosive. Though the massive Faridabad haul was confirmed to be mostly ammonium nitrate-based IED material, the search focused on RDX due to its role in high-profile attacks.

Government-Approved Sectors Where RDX is Used

Government-approved use of RDX in India is entirely confined to sensitive, specialized sectors related to national defense and security.

Primarily, it is utilized by the Indian Armed Forces and their associated Defence Production Units (like Ordnance Factories and DRDO labs) for manufacturing high-explosive munitions, warheads, and specialized demolition charges used by the Engineering Corps.
