Akhilesh Yadav’s official Facebook page as the president of Samajwadi Party (SP) was suspended on Friday night, prompting a sharp political outburst from his party. The Samajwadi Party blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government for it. But sources rubbished the charge, stating that it was Meta, the parent company of Facebook, that acted against him and that the government had nothing to do with it. His page was put on hold for sharing a “violent sexual post”, the sources added.
Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s Facebook page, which was followed by more than eight million people, was suspended at about 6pm, news agency PTI reported. Akhilesh Yadav’s page was often used to post his views, point out what he described as the government’s failures, and engage with supporters all over the state.

Spokesman Fakhrul Hasan Chaand Post on X
Strongly reacting, SP spokesman Fakhrul Hasan Chaand posted on ‘X’, “Suspending the Facebook account of venerable Akhilesh Yadav ji, the national chief of the nation’s third-largest political party, is an assault on democracy. The BJP government has declared undeclared emergency, under which each contradicting voice is being muzzled. But the Samajwadi Party will keep resisting the BJP anti-people policies.”
SP Calls Facebook Action a Blow to Democracy
Samajwadi Party national secretary Rajeev Rai also criticized the act, stating it’s a setback to India’s democratic system. “Such an account block by FACEBOOK of the leader of the third largest party in India’s parliament, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Honorable Shri @yadavakhilesh ji, is not only condemnable but also a setback to India’s democratic system,” Rai’s X post stated.
Rai also stated that if the BJP has done this, then it is a “mistake”. “If this has been done on the orders of the ruling party, it is an indication of cowardice. Attempting to stifle the voice of socialists is a mistake. @facebook @samajwadiparty,” Rai further stated. SP MLA Pooja Shukla condemned Facebook for suspending Akhilesh’s account without any warning or notice.
“Facebook has dared to cross its limits it has suspended the official page of Akhilesh Yadav ji (@yadavakhilesh) without any warning or notice. This is not an ordinary account — this is Akhilesh Yadav ji, the voice of millions! Facebook must remember its boundaries it cannot silence democracy. Samajwadis, it’s time to bring Facebook to its senses! Such arrogance will not be tolerated,” Shukla said.
