Leonardo Ananda Gomes, Executive Director of the India-Brazil Chamber of Commerce, praised the growing trade ties between India and Brazil. He revealed that their bilateral trade has now crossed USD 15 billion. Gomes expressed optimism about future growth, emphasizing untapped potential.

“Now the trade between India and Brazil is USD 15 billion, in our opinion we are just starting. There is a huge potential to explore. We are always hosting Indian delegations here in Brazil,” he told ANI.

PM Modi’s Strong Ties with Brazil’s President

Gomes also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close relationship with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. According to him, this bond is helping strengthen the partnership between the two nations.

“PM Modi is doing a great job and he has a strong relationship with Brazilians and with our President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva,” Gomes said. He added, “So, I am sure that we are facing the best moment for this relationship. India did a very good job and I think it was the best G20 ever. In Brazil, we are trying to do the same thing.”

PM Modi at the G20 Summit

Prime Minister Modi is in Brazil to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled for November 18-19. India, as a Troika member, will play a key role in shaping the summit’s agenda. The focus will remain on Global South priorities, building on India’s achievements during its G20 presidency last year.

PM Modi expressed his vision for the summit in a statement. He said, “Last year, India’s successful Presidency elevated the G-20 to people’s G-20 and mainstreamed the priorities of the Global South into its Agenda. This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’”

Focus on Global South Priorities

Brazil has committed to continuing India’s efforts to highlight Global South issues. These discussions aim to bring progress and ensure continuity.

PM Modi also plans to use the summit to strengthen bilateral ties. “I will also use the opportunity to exchange views on furthering bilateral cooperation with several other leaders,” he stated.

India’s growing trade with Brazil and its active role in global platforms like the G20 underline its commitment to collaboration and sustainable growth.
