India has announced the inclusion of two additional ports for exporting essential commodities to the Maldives for the fiscal year 2024-25. The newly designated ports are Kandla Sea (INIXY1) and Vishakhapatnam Sea (INYTZ1).
The Indian High Commission in the Maldives confirmed this update in a post on X, stating, “The Government of India has announced the inclusion of two additional ports for the export of essential commodities from India to the Maldives for FY 2024-2025.” Kandla and Vishakhapatnam Customs Sea ports are now added to the existing list of four ports already approved for these exports.
The official notification, referencing the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act of 1992 and the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, outlines the addition of these two ports to the Prohibited/Restricted category for essential commodity exports to the Maldives. This amendment updates Notification No 06/2023, issued on April 15, 2024.
In a related note, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu expressed his condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the tragic landslides in Wayanad, India, which have claimed over 200 lives and caused numerous injuries. Muizzu described the disaster as an “unimaginable tragedy,” highlighting the severe loss of life and widespread devastation resulting from the landslides.
