Google to roll out visual improvements in Google Maps
In a move to better reflect actual environments in the maps, Google is set to bring out visual improvements in the Google maps. The tech company is introducing a colour-mapping algorithmic technique to help users to easily understand what an area looks like and hence they will be able to visualise it. The update will allow users to know how the area is. They will be able to see the lush green mountains, a vast sandy desert, and even snow-capped mountains. In a blog post, Google said it would use computer vision to identify natural features from its satellite imagery, looking specifically at arid, icy, forested, and mountainous regions. It will then analyse these features and assign them a range of colours on the HSV colour model. A densely covered forest can be classified as dark green, while an area of patchy shrubs would appear as a lighter shade of green.
